I am pleased to announce that Morrisons has agreed to review parking arrangements for their store on London Road in Hadleigh over the next few months.
Right now the maximum a town centre shopper can park in the car park is 3 hours. Any longer and they face a £60 fine. If their car park isn’t consistently full over the review period, Morrisons has agreed to look into an option to allow town centre shoppers who want to stay longer via some form of ticket system as they have at some of their other stores.
Since the current system was introduced businesses in the town centre have noticed a drop in footfall as shoppers have little time to visit other businesses on either side of their big shop. Residents in nearby streets have also been left frustrated as their roads clog up with people parking there to avoid the fines.
I have been lobbying Morrisons with the support of Hadleigh Councillor Jacqui Thornton who has been campaigning on behalf of businesses in the town centre since the new parking restrictions came into force last year.
I am pleased they have listened and I look forward to the outcome of their review.
