The Prime Minister has called a General Election which will take place on 4th July. The choice at the election is clear: stick with the plan by choosing bold action for a safer, more secure and more prosperous future with Rishi Sunak, or go back to square one with Keir Starmer and the same old Labour.
Rebecca Harris is seeking re-election on the 4th July:
"I’m pleased to be standing again as the Conservative Party Candidate for the wonderful borough of Castle Point. I have delivered on many things over the last few years, helping thousands of residents with their individual issues, consistently fighting to save our Green Belt and backing Brexit and getting it done. I am deeply worried by the threat to our security from a Keir Starmer-led Government, which would only reverse the hard-won progress the country has made. I hope that I can be re-elected again to continue the work I have been doing.”
The UK has faced unprecedented challenges caused by Covid and Ukraine. This has made life more difficult for the British people. By sticking with the plan, Rishi Sunak is making progress. The ship is steadier than it was before. Inflation is down from 11.1% to 2.3% and returned to its normal level, the lowest since 2021. The Rwanda Act has passed and we are getting the planes ready. The economy growing, with GDP up by 0.6% and we have the joint fastest growth in the G7 in this quarter. That is why we have been able to cut National Insurance – the double tax on work from 12% to 8%, saving the average worker £900 a year.
Inflation has returned to its normal level and the economy is turning a corner. Now the public should choose who has the clear plan and can deliver the bold action needed to secure a better long-term future for our country and our children, in an increasingly unstable and uncertain world.
My Plan for Castle Point
I will keep fighting for my resident priorities like...
Defending our Green Belt from unwanted development.
I will continue to stand with residents against unwanted developments on our precious Green Belt. This Government has made protections for our Green Belt far stronger and more transparent.
Backing local businesses to create local jobs.
Inflation has fallen and we have put our economy on the right track. We have lowered the tax burden for local businesses by extending the 75% reduction of business rates for retail, leisure and hospitality.
Protecting our borough from flooding
After the devastating flooding in Castle Point, I made it my personal mission to ensure that all the different flood prevention agencies coordinate their improvement works and put in place further protections.
Supporting our Pensioners & Protecting the Triple Lock
I supported the introduction of the triple lock and I’m glad we continue to support older people by providing free bus passes and prescriptions, Winter Fuel Payments, and Cold Weather Payments for those receiving Pension Credit.
Increasing opportunities for local young people
I have worked hard to support local schools and colleges. I will continue my push to secure more good quality education and training in Castle Point and ensure our young people have bright prospects ahead.
Tackling Anti-social behaviour and cracking down on crime
Essex Police now has a record number of officers and I am working with them to address residents’ concerns around anti-social behaviour so that people can be reassured they are safe in our community.
